Battle Droids are mass-produced, expendable infantry units serving the Trade Federation and later the Separatist Alliance in the Star Wars galaxy. Designed for combat and requiring minimal independent thought, they represent a cost-effective solution for overwhelming enemy forces.

These droids are characterized by their thin metal frames, tan or grey coloration, and monotone voices. Their primary function is to follow programmed commands and engage in direct combat, often relying on sheer numbers rather than advanced tactics.

Battle Droids first appeared in *Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace* (1999), as the primary force invading Naboo. They became a symbol of the Clone Wars, constantly clashing with the clone troopers of the Republic.
